Levels of Examination

JEE Main

Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Serves as a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced.
Used for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.

JEE Advanced

Conducted by one of the IITs on a rotational basis.
Only candidates who qualify JEE Main are eligible to appear.
Used for admission to IITs.

Exam Pattern

JEE Main

Consists of two papers: Paper 1 (for B.E./B.Tech) and Paper 2 (for B.Arch/B.Planning).
Paper 1 includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and numerical value questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode.

JEE Advanced

Consists of two papers, each with three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Includes a mix of objective type (MCQs) and numerical type questions.
Conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode.

Eligibility

10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Age limits and attempts restrictions apply.

Syllabus

Covers 10+2 level Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Frequency and Attempts

JEE Main: Twice a year (January and April); maximum six attempts.
JEE Advanced: Once a year; maximum two attempts in consecutive years.

One of the toughest and most prestigious engineering exams.

Leads to admission in top engineering institutes.

Physics (22.5%)
- High Weightage: Electrostatics, Optics, Current Electricity, Mechanics.
- Moderate Weightage: Magnetism, Modern Physics, Waves, Thermodynamics.
- Relatively Lower Weightage: Experimental Physics, Units and Dimensions, Kinematics.
Chemistry (22.5%)
- High Weightage: Physical Chemistry (Stoichiometry, Chemical Equilibrium, Thermodynamics), Inorganic Chemistry (s-Block, p-Block elements), Organic Chemistry (Reactions of Alkanes, Alkenes, Alkynes, Benzene).
- Moderate Weightage: Coordination Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Biomolecules, Polymers.
- Relatively Lower Weightage: Solutions, Surface Chemistry, Metallurgy.
Mathematics (35%)
- High Weightage: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra, Vector Algebra, Probability and Statistics.
- Moderate Weightage: Sets, Relations and Functions, Differential Equations, Sequence and Series.
- Relatively Lower Weightage: Matrices and Determinants, Permutations and Combinations.
